My father Abdirazaq Amal Maalinguur was a man of many traits and none that I could emulate in words.

The love I have for him as my father is nothing compared to the admiration I have for the man he was. A man so giving I feared he wouldn’t have enough to give to himself. A man so giving that on his hospital bed he still worried about what I ate and whether I drank enough to rehydrate the tears I shed. A man who comforted everyone around him and reminded them of Allah as they cried for him. A man who made everyone double over in laughter whilst he barely had the energy to hold his head up.

There are not enough words to encompass the man who my father was nor embed the love in you that he embedded deep into everyone he came into contact with. The instant warmth and joy that would envelop every room he entered will make every room feel empty to me from now on. The stability he held in our family will always feel shaky from now on. What will last is the wisdom, love and faith he instilled in us. This is why as a family we want to attempt to repay what he did for us as a father by gifting something that will last for him as a sadaqah jaariyah.

My father never refused me of anything I asked nor did he refuse anybody. If he could ask for anything today, it would be whatever allows him to attain Allah’s mercy. We ask, as fellow Muslims, as brothers and sisters in Islam to aid us and our father for the sake of Allah. It will never decrease your wealth but will increase your good deeds:

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Charity does not decrease wealth, no one forgives another but that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah but that Allah raises his status.”
